Objective(s)

Students will:

  • be introduced to the field of fingerprint biometrics via Power Point Presentation
  • evaluate and synthesize information to respond to journal questions

Time Required

1 - 45 minute class period

Instructional Materials

Power Point presentation: Fingerprint Biometrics

Procedure

Students will view Power Point Presentation of Fingerprint Biometrics.
Students will respond to the following journal questions after viewing presentation:

  1. Before the presentation how did you believe that a fingerprint image was stored for identification purposes?
  2. Discuss any technological devices that you have heard of that are using fingerprint scanning technology, and why these are beneficial to society.
  3. Where can you see future impacts being made in fingerprint technology?

Differentiated Instruction

Modifications should occur according to the school's inclusion plan and the individual student's IEP
Journal Questions can be modified to meet individual needs of each student or course.
Handouts for power point may be made for individual students.

Collaboration

This lesson can be expand into history and english.  History can begin by looking at when and how fingerprint identification came about. English Courses can integrate technical writing skills by having students write a report on how one of the new technological devices collects, stores, retrieves, and verifies fingerprint information.

Author's Comments

A blog may be created using www.blogspot.com to allow students to blog journal answers.
