State Content Standards and Objectives

Language Arts:

6.1.5  use comprehension skills (e.g., draw conclusions; interpret meaning).

6.1.8  explain text connections to self, to other text and to the world for understanding a literary passage.

6.1.10  use resource materials (e.g., dictionary; glossary; thesaurus) to determine the meaning of unknown words or multiple meaning words.

6.2.3  use writing strategies to address specific writing purposes and address various audiences (e.g., peers; teachers; employers).

Science:

6.1.2  recognize that scientific knowledge is subject to modification as new scientific information challenges current theories.

6.1.4  articulate the historical significance of scientific discoveries as influenced by technological demands, competition, controversy, world events, personalities and societal issues.

6.2.2  formulate conclusions through close observations, logical reasoning, objectivity, perseverance and integrity in data collection.

6.2.3  apply skepticism, careful methods, logical reasoning and creativity in investigating the observable universe.

6.2.4  use a variety of materials and scientific instruments to conduct explorations, investigations and experiments of the natural world (e.g., computer).

Technology:

6.1.3  continue to manage and maintain technology tools.

6.4.1  use telecommunication tools to collaborate with an expert in gathering information for a class assignment.

6.5.1  develop a search strategy using keywords that define the topic.

6.5.2  evaluate information found via telecommunications for validity, appropriateness, content and usefulness.

6.6.1  use technology resources for problem solving, self-directed learning, and extended learning activities.

Math:

6.2.9  use variables to represent and solve real world problems appropriate for the 6th grade using multiple strategies.

6.4.2  apply formulas to determine perimeter, circumference and/or area of plane figures including compound figures.

6.4.5  select appropriate units and determine length, weight/mass and capacity/volume using metric and customary systems.

Art:

6.1.2  use selected media, techniques, technologies, and processes to communicate a personal experience or an idea.

6.1.4  demonstrate safe and effective use of materials, tools, and technology.

6.3.2  use symbols to communicate an intended meaning in an artwork
