In this activity, you will create a facial image of yourself with FACES software or a digital camera. You will print this image out to make comparisons at a later time. You will crop or resize the image so that it may be printed in black and white or color on an 8X10 sheet of paper.
FACES SOFTWARE INSTRUCTIONS:
If you are using FACES, use the software features to create an image
that closely resembles yourself. On the left side of the screen, you will
notice a blank window. On
the center of the screen, you will notice icons that contain features of
the face (eyes, chin, nose, etc.). Click on an icon and several examples
of the feature will appear on the right side of your window. If you find
a feature that matches yours, click on it with your mouse. If not, click
on the right arrow (or left to go back) on the buttom of the screen. When
you finish the image, print it on an 8X10 sheet of paper. Do not include
any identifying information on the paper (except the headshot). Give the
image to your teacher.
DIGITAL CAMERA INSTRUCTIONS:
If you are using a digital camera, take the image of your head according
to the photo specifications for a US Passport:
The important thing to remember about passport photos is that they
should allow border inspectors to recognize you when they look at your
passport. These guidelines will help you shoot and prepare photos that
can be used in passports. You can view examples of good and bad passport
photos at http://www.onthegosoft.com/passport_photo_specifications.htm.
After you've taken the photo with a digital camera, resize the image so that it fills an entire 8X10 sheet of paper. Do not include any identifying information on the paper (except the headshot).
TASKS TO COMPLETE AFTER ACQUIRING PHOTO:
When you have printed the image on an 8X10 sheet of paper, complete
the following tasks (NOTE: You will need to use a metric ruler for some
of the questions.):
1. Use a ruler to draw a straight line across the distance between the pupil of the right eye and the pupil of the left eye and measure it: _______.
2. Use a ruler to draw a straight line across the distance across the forehead and measure it: _______.
