In this activity, you will create an image of your fingerprint of your right or left thumb. You may use a variety of materials to accomplish this goal depending on availability and your teacher's instructions. You will print this image out to make comparisons at a later time. You will crop or resize the image so that it may be printed in black and white on a 3X5 sheet of paper.

USING FINGERPAINT:
Place a small amount of fingerpaint on the surface of your right or left thumb. Use a rag to blot any excess paint from your thumb. Gently place your thumb on the index card to acquire a fingerprint. Follow the more specific directions below:
 

USING THE PUPPY:
Use the Sony Puppy mouse and follow the instructions for logging a new user into the system that have been provided by your teacher. Once you have followed the teacher's instructions. Use print screen to copy the image of your fingerprint from the screen and paste it into a Word document. You will then cut the image to the size of a 3X5 lineless index card and tape it to that card. Above the print, write SAMPLE (and place your first and last initial here).
 

AFTER ACQUIRING THE FINGERPRINT:
Once you have acquired the image, use the Fingerprint Analysis Sheet and the Basic Composite Ridge Characteristics sheet to answer the following questions:

1. Identify the ridge type (NOTE: You have 3 to choose from.): ________________

2. Identify the subcategory of the fingerprint:___________________________.

3.With the knowledge you have acquired from the Fingerprint Analysis Sheet, use a red pen to mark 3 minutiae points on the fingerprint similar to the pictures here (as shown left to right: dot, ending ridge, island, bifurcation).
