Iris Scan Student Handout
Workstation 2

In this activity, you will create a digital picture of one of your irises at a close-up angle with a digital camera, Kennavision, or
digital flex cam in order to make observations and comparisons at a later time. You will crop and resize the image so that it may be printed on a color printer according to specifications (similar to the image to the right). You may need the assistance of a partner to take the picture of your iris.

You will need to resize the image so that it is the size of a 5X7 horizontal picture; this may require you to stretch or resize the image once it is in the Word document. Your teacher may ask you to save the image to a disk or flash drive so that it may be printed at a later time. NOTE: Make sure that you take the image near a light source so that the pupil isn't expanded like the image here.

Once you have taken the picture and placed it in the Word document, use the header/footer feature to type a two-digit number at the top of the picture. This will be the only identifying information on the picture. Do not place any identifying information that connects the picture to you. Print the picture on a color printer and answer the following questions.

Overall color of iris: ____________________.

Identifying mark(s) on the iris: ___________________.

Location of the mark(s) on the iris: ______________________________________.

Submit this sheet and the picture of the iris to your teacher once the tasks are completed.
