DURATION OF LESSON:The student will choose one career and one college/training institution.
The student will select one career and one college/training institution for research and inquiry in presentation for a chosen occupation and its action plan.
The student will chart the salary for his/her occupational choice for three different geographic locations.
90 minute class periodMATERIALS:TECHNOLOGY TOOLS:
- Salary Activity worksheet
- Writing Utensil and paper
- Website word document
- Printer paper
One computer for each student with internet access and a printer (preferably color).TEACHER'S NOTES:PROCEDURES:Verify that the School Acceptable Computer Usage form is on file.
Schedule computer lab.
Teacher needs to have prior knowledge of virtual college tours.
Teacher needs to be familiar with Websites for Individual Colleges.
Teacher needs to be able to use Excel and Microsoft Word 97 (or higher).
1. In a computer lab, students will browse sites for possible occupations of interest and possible college choices.MODIFICATIONS:2. Students will browse the Websites listed on the Websites handout for individual careers and individual colleges, and select one occupation and one college/training institution for this project.
3. Using the Website Salary, students will select one occupation, and chart the salary available at ten different geographic locations. See Salary Activity.
Modifications will be made for those individuals with IEPs in coordination with the Special Education Department.ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES:Students will access the website Salary and prepare a list in Microsoft Word of the skills required for their chosen occupation.EVALUATION/ASSESSMENT:IGOs FOR WEST VIRGINIA:

- An optional double entry response log may be used instead of notes.
