Prevention Of Heart Attack

 Grade Level:  9 

Subject:  Health, PE, Language Art, Math 

Learner Outcomes:
 Students will: 

1. Write a diet menu for a one week period ( breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks) . 
2. Construct physical conditioning program dealing with upper and lower muscle groups along with cardio-vascular endurance.

Teacher Notes:
1. Students should gear the diet plan and exercise program to fit his or her individual needs and lifestyle. 
2. Check individual menu's and exercise programs before they are incorporated into Microsoft Word. 
3. Teacher should have prior working knowledge of Microsoft Word

Procedures:
1. Students will access the American Heart Association   in order to draft their one week menu dealing with breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. This should address all four food groups. Students will compose their menus on Microsoft word. 

2. Students will access Fitness Fundamentals in order to draft a fitness program that is suited for their individual needs.  Students will compose their program with Microsoft Word. 

Modifications:

1. Students with overt medical conditions should have physicians guidelines for physical conditioning. 
2. Students with special needs should be allowed extra time and peer tutoring as needed. 
3. Teacher should consult individual students IEP's and 504 plan. 

Enrichment Activities:

1.  Teacher should review how to make a chart using excel .  Students will graph, analyze, and make predictions using the 
      statistics from the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion.
