Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation

Learner Outcomes:

1.   All students in Health classes will have a working knowledge of CPR so that if they are confronted with real life situation 
      they will be able to perform with a high degree of confidence 
 

 Students must be able to do: 

a. Determine unresponsiveness 
b. Getting Help 
c. Positioning of the victim 
d. Opening of the airway 
e. Determining breathlessness 
f. Rescue Breaths 
g. Determining if the victim has a pulse 
h. Landmark Check 
i.  Hand Position 
j. Compression rate 
k.  Compression to breath 
l.  Number of cycles 
m.  Reassessment 

Duration Of Lesson:   2-90 minute

1. CPR Mannequin 
2. CPR Manual 
3. Floor Pads (for comfort) 
4. BLS Performance Sheet 
5. Bleach and Water Solution (sanitation of mannequin) or Safety Shields 
6. TV 
7. VCR 
8. Heart Saver Video/Guide

Teacher Notes:

1. Floor pads are not necessary but are very useful in prevention of minor injuries to the lower extremities. 
2. Students must be aware of the physical exertion placed upon their body when performing CPR. 
3. Teacher should consult individual students IEP's and 504 plan. 

Procedures:

Students will view Heart Saver video/guide and later review with PowerPoint .  Teacher should demonstrate CPR after viewing Heart Saver video/guide.   Certified instructors may be brought in so that students could be certified in CPR. 
 

Modifications:

Physically challenged students should be allowed to perform CPR on an elevated surface.
