Teacher Notes:  Have older students or parents or a Read Aloud Volunteer to come into the classroom and read poetry to the class.  Find Internet sites and bookmark them before you begin this session.

Procedure:
                    1) Introduce the lesson by reading various poems to the student about the rainforest or about rainforest animals. You can have older students or parents or Read Aloud Volunteers read poetry to the students.  (You can use the poetry books listed in the reference section).
                    2) As a group, write poems about rainforest animals using different styles of poetry.  See examples: Poetry
                    3) Publish several of the poems into a booklet of poems.  Use Kid Works  Deluxe or Microsoft Creative Writer or a word processor to publish the poems. Be sure to add border and some graphics or clip art to to make the page appealing.
                    4)  Put a comment page at the end of the booklet.  Let the children take the book home to read to someone and have the students make a comment, as well as the person they read it to.

Modifications:  In a group situation, teachers can allow and encourage all students to participate.  When completed as an individual, students that need extra attention can be easily  identified and assisted.
