Duration of Lesson: About five 30-minute class sessions
Materials:

Teacher Notes: Collect library books about the rainforest. Find Internet sites and bookmark them before you begin this sesson.
Procedure:
1) Introduce the lesson with the CD-ROM, The Magic School
Bus Rain Forest software or The Amazon Trail.
2) Read several fact books about the rain forest.
3) Divide the class into groups, each group will do research on 2 or 3
animals from different layers of the rain forest. Use the research
question page to answer questions about their animals.
4) Each group will do a report on their findings.
5) The students will play a game called Can
You Name Me?
Modification: In a group situation, teachers can allow and encourage all students to participate. When completed as an individual, students that need extra attention can be easily identified and assisted.
Enrichment: Cut white tagboard to the size of a postcard. Draw pictures of a rainforest on one side of the card. On the other side, on the left hand side, write a sentence about the rainforest; on the right hand side, address the letter to a friend and mail it. Complete checklist for every child.
Evaluation: Completed the research question paper; active participation and group discussion.
