Bulls and Bears

4 – 5 days (45minute classes)
Materials:

Stock market reports in daily newspaper
Technology Tools/Courseware:

Computer with access to the Internet Explorer or Netscape

Excel software
Teacher notes:

Students will have to be taught how to read the stock market
reports from the newspaper

Teachers need to locate and make arrangements for a local
stock broker to visit

Teachers need to do extensive research on current market
events for the stock market
Procedures:

Discuss terms related to investment
strategies of stocks and bonds
-
Discuss how to read stock market reports
and how to use various stock price averages
-
Students will use the Internet or the daily newspaper to
find the latest stock prices, select three stocks, write an explanation
of what each one has done over the last six weeks, report to be collected
for a graded activity every two weeks

Given $10,000.00 students will chose stocks of their choice
and chart the progress with line graphs for 6 weeks, print every two weeks
for a graded assignment activity

Teacher will provide stock market data from the daily newspaper
for use if network is down
Enrichment Activities:

Students will write a short paper explaining how and why
they chose the stocks they purchased with the allotted $10,000.00
