graphs.
Duration of Lesson:

2 – 3 Days (45 minute Classes)

Updated interest rates from banks and Mastercard/Visa credit
cards

Computer with access to Internet Explorer or Netscape

Excel software
Teacher notes:

Teacher may locate Internet sites and or have interest rates
located (time saving and backup)

Teacher may have to research safety tips and procedures for
lost credit cards.

Consumer Credit Counseling
Service is a good site for credit. This site also has teacher lesson
plans for various grades.

Procedures:

Discuss what credit means and the different types of credit

Teacher will discuss how to choose
a card.

Discuss what can be done when a credit card is lost and safety
tips for using credit card(s) Tips

Discuss advantages/disadvantages
of credit

Students will investigate different
credit cards and their interest rates.

Teacher will instruct students to calculate cost of credit
and evaluate/compare credit card differences with the use of Excel.

Students will use the Internet to find a large purchase up
to $1000.

Students will compare credit card differences of their purchase
with the use of bar graph.
-
Students will use the information found on the Internet to
write a short paper, explaining their purchase and thoughts on credit.

Teacher will provide data for interest rates if network is
down
Enrichment Activities:

Plan different purchases for the family, finding the cheapest
rates and best method of financing.
