Contact local artists to come to class - composers, performers and such.

Schedule projector through the school/county.

Schedule computer lab internet activities.
Procedures:
Day 1
-
Distribute blank handouts on careers in musical theatre.
-
Show PowerPoint presentation of The Civil
War and have the students write on their handouts the individuals
who performed these specific roles. (WARNING: This PowerPoint presentation
is a HUGE file.
You may want to download and save it to disk to use later.)

Upon completion discuss and define from handout each of the careers
- having the students write down a description of each of these careers
on their blank handouts as they are discussed. You may wish to give any
special learners a copy of the completed handout.
Day 2
-
Have guests (composer, performer, conductor, director, etc.) discuss
in further detail the role they play in the production of a musical. Q
& A session.

Review by playing a game in which each student draws a musical theatre
career from a hat, then describes the role to the class without revealing
the career title at which point the class will guess the profession.
Day 3
-
Give quiz. Grade and discuss any questions in class.

Go to the computer lab and allow to students to do a job search for
careers in musical theatre as found at the Backstage
internet site
Modifications:
Special learners that are unable to take notes may need to have completed
copies of the handout or recorded versions of the handout/class discussion.
Enrichment
Activities: Field trip to see a local, touring or broadway musical production.

Evaluation/Assessment:
Students will be evaluated with a written exam in which they will define,
describe and identify careers in the area of musical theatre.
