Learner Outcomes:  The student will:

• Read independently outside of class, a literary work by a national or international author.
• Analyze the organization, author's style and text components to determine genre.
• Draw conclusions to make generalizations, judgments, and inferences.
• Summarize, analyze, and interpret information based on their reading selection.
• Work as part of a team to prepare a presentation for the class that incorporates his reading selection.

Materials:  Copy of the work read by each student, art supplies

Technology Tools/Courseware:  Computers with printers and word processing program, access to video tapes and camera, audio tapes and recorder

Teacher Notes:  Have available a number of other works by the chosen authors, in addition to those students chose to read.

Procedures:

• Each person in each group should already have read a work by the group's chosen author.
• Working as a team, the group should choose a format for their presentation from the following list:

• Presentation must incorporate each child's book or story.

Enrichment Activities:  Students could plan an art or music lesson based on their presentation or literary work read.
Students could read a literary work to another class.  Students could give their presentations to other classes.

Evaluation/Assessment:  Student Self Evaluation Form and 4 point rubric to be completed at the end of
Lesson 4
