PERSONALLY POETIC
Grades 3 - 6
Language Arts

 
Learner Outcomes:  Students will create a poem using Acrostic
                                  and notes from their biography journals.

Duration of Lesson:  30 minute class period

Materials:  Acrostic poem format, transparency of Acrostic
                   examples,  biography reading journals

Technology Tools/Courseware:  Overhead projector, Kid Pix CD-Rom,
                   Multi-media computer; data projector

Teacher Notes: 
 



Procedures:
     1. Using the overhead transparency or the  introduce the Acrostic format for poem to be
            written.
     2. Give examples of Acrostic poems using format introduced.  [Go to Acrostic Website
            bookmarked prior to lesson.]
     3. Review data from reading biography journals.
     4. Using Kid Pix software, students will write poem using  format.
     5. Illustrate poem using Kid Pix.
     6. Compile poems as a class biography/poetry book.
