Puzzle Mania 
Grade Level: 3-6

Learner Outcomes: Students will be able to create their own on line puzzles after reading a bibliography. They will use information from the bibliography to incorporate into their puzzle. Students can create word find, crossword, or word searches.
Time Frame: Two days
Materials: Biographies, Internet site, (puzzlemaker)
Technology Tools/Courseware:
multi media computer(s), internet access, bookmark puzzlemaker.com,
a projector would ease in the demonstration of creating puzzles, a floppy
disk
for each student
1. The teacher
will give an overview of the day's activities by showing examples of puzzles,
such as a word find, crossword puzzle and a word search.
2. The teacher
will explain that the students will be creating their own puzzles with
the aid of the computer. They will be using their information that they
read from their biographies.
3. The students
will decide which type of puzzle they want to create.
4. The students
will write out the questions/vocabulary they want to use in their puzzle.
They will need their biography books as a resource.
Day two
1. With the use
of a projector the classroom teacher will demonstrate how to open the www.puzzlemaker.com
using the preset bookmark.
2. Students
will then go to Create Your Favorite Puzzle and click on the style of puzzle
they want to create.
3. Students
will need to follow the step by step procedures listed for each puzzle.
4. Once the
students have created their puzzle they will save on floppy disks
and then print their pages.
5. The class
will get the opportunity to try their classmates puzzles.
Modifications:
Students
with special needs:
Assign
a computer buddy with students that have difficulty working on their own.
Enrichment Activities:
Students can create
a second choice of one of the puzzle types listed in the Puzzlemaker.
Students can create
a self biography puzzle on Puzzlemaker
Evaluation/Assessment:
Students will receive points for correctly formed puzzles. These points
will be awarded for spelling of words, correct subject content, following
