"CHILDREN SHOULD BE SEEN AND NOT HEARD"
Grade
Level: Grades 4-5
Subjects: Social Studies, Reading, Computer Literacy
Learner
Outcomes:
Students
will:
1.
List three traits of 20th-century daily life under three categories
-- food,
manners, and family.
2.
Make another chart with these same categories and research daily life in
Colonial Virginia.
3.
Use this information and create a PowerPoint presentation.
Time Frame: Five 45-minute periods
Materials: Reference books on colonial times
Technology Tools/Courseware: Microsoft PowerPoint, Internet access
Teacher
Notes:
Some
students may need the option of doing their presentation in a traditional
form using posters and oral presentation.
Procedures:
1.
Begin by listing the three categories on the board and opening a whole
class
discussion. Students will brainstorm and come up with traits under
each
category. Write these down as they name them.
2.
Students will then be instructed to choose one of the three categories.
3.
Using the Internet site Colonial
Williamsburg, students
will learn details about
their subject.
4.
Students will then use their information to create a PowerPoint presentation.
5.
Students will present their PowerPoint and share it with the class.
6.
A good public relations strategy would be to take some pictures of their
presentations with a digital camera, make your own PowerPoint program and
present it at a PTA meeting or at a meeting of your PTA's finance or executive
board. This would be a wonderful demonstration of the use of technology
and
reinforce the need for more equipment that needs funding.
