Duration of Lesson: Two 1 hour sessions

Seuss We Love You, large chart paper,
"All About Dr. Seuss"

Technology Tools/Courseware: Dr. Seuss Internet Site, Imagine Software, video camera, tape, television, Inspiration Software
Teacher Notes:
1. A picture of Dr. Seuss can be seen on or printed
from the Dr. Seuss
Internet Site site.
2. Have students keep "My
Character Counts" Thinksheet in a safe place so they may add to it
after each lesson.
Procedures:
1. Show picture of Dr. Seuss and have students guess
who he is and what his goal may have been.
2. Have the students search the Dr.
Seuss Internet Site to find the answers to complete "All
About Dr. Seuss" Thinksheet.
3. Read Dr. Seuss
We Love You to the students.
4. Discuss the accomplishments of Dr. Seuss.
5. Chart how he accomplished his goals together on
large chart paper.
6. Students create own chart on the steps to reaching
their goal using Inspiration Software.
7. Brainstorm and chart together character traits
needed in order to achieve goals.
8. Separate the students into cooperative groups and
assign each group a positive character trait.
9. Students work in small groups to role play positive
character traits.
10. Have students video tape groups and watch videos
as a group and discuss.
11. Students will keep track of character traits learned
throughout this unit on "My Character
Counts" Thinksheet.
Modifications: The teacher may have students
work with a partner to do research from the internet site.
The teacher may need to help students understand goals.
Enrichment Activities: The students may play the games on the Seusville site and determine what character trait is taught in the Dr. Seuss story that is portrayed in each game.
Evaluation and Assessment:
Check the
"All About Dr. Seuss" Thinksheet for
completeness and accuracy.
Assess the
students' goal charts for reasonable responses.
