"Something Fishy"

Grade Level(s):  Pre K-K

Subject(s): Language Arts, Science, Art

Learner Outcomes:  The students will be able to discuss the importance of sharing/caring in a friendship.

Time Frame: 60 minutes

Materials: The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister, white art paper, tempera paint (blue, purple, red, yellow, orange, green), paint brushes, silver glitter, silver wrapping-paper, and scissors.

Technology Tools/Courseware: Computers with Internet access, scanner, projector, and a digital camera.

Teacher Notes: Use the digital camera to take pictures of students during this activity. Reinforce sharing and taking turns during use of digital camera.  Have students add a hand-drawn picture to a pond scene and make a copy and then scan the picture.  Use the picture in an overhead demonstration using a projector.

Modifications:  Adapt for special needs students, based on IEP's.

Enrichment Activities:

A Song About Sharing (sung to the tune of The MuffinMan.

Have you heard of the sharing child.
The sharing child, the sharing child?
Have you heard of the sharing child?
He wouldn't share his crackers.

If you were the sharing child,
The sharing child, the sharing child;
If  you were the sharing child,
Would you share your crackers?

If I were the sharing child,
The sharing child, the sharing child;
If I were the sharing child,
YES! I'd share my crackers.

Reinforcement:

Children share "fish-shaped" crackers.
