Title: Calculate From Plate To Plate

Learner Outcomes: Upon completion of this lesson students will be able to use estimation formulas and materials lists to calculate cost of  materials needed to construct a wall system for a single family residential structure.

Duration of Lesson: Five Hours

Materials: Printout of "Estimation Formulas Worksheet", "Unscaled Floor Plan", and "Abbreviations"

Technology Tools/Courseware:  Calculator, computer work station, software - Access & Excel

Teachers Notes: Students should have already mastered the technical information associated with constructing a floor system.

Procedures:

Activity 1. Using the Raw Data/Estimation Formulas Worksheet - Wall System, the students
                 will calculate the materials needed to construct the wall system.

Activity 2. Using the completed Raw Data/Estimation Formulas Worksheet and Lumber Price list
                 and Hardware Price list students will calculate the cost of materials to construct the wall
                 system. Open Excel and choose the Invoice Template as a pricing sheet.

Enrichment Activities:

Evaluation/Assessment: Students will print out a completed pricing sheet for the wall system.
                                               Acceptable level of proficiency:   Calculations 95%
