Procedure:
Day 1. Read the Poem and The Story The
Man Who Loved The Sea
2. Explore what they have been learning about the ocean. How do we have
this
knowledge? Brainstorm some careers
that are associated with the ocean.
3. Have Marine Careers, Careers
in Oceanography, Marine Science and Marine
Biology which
is an in depth site, also Women
Oceanographers web
sites book marked.
4. Partner the student to research a career.
Day 2. Present their information on their career they chose.
Modifications:
Make sure following the student IEPs and 504 plans.
Students can tape their notes in a tape recorder
Enrichment Activities:
Dress up as the person and present the information to the class.
Write a letter to someone in the profession they researched to get a personal
view on the career.
A Career Day if cannot invite ocean career people: Department of Natural
Resources, an aqua culture farmer.
Evaluation/Assessment:
Their
presentation, their notes, how well they worked together as a partner.
Question
sheet and answer sheet completed.
This is a self evaluation on
questions 1-4. Question number 5 could be turned in for a 5 point
grade.
