Learner Outcomes:
1. The students will
be able to determine which amount is larger when shown 2 groups of money.
2. The students with
recognize different denomination of coins.
Duration of Lesson:
1 class period approx.
1 hour.
Materials:
Computer, monitor, printer,
scissors, card stock or construction paper, calculator.
Technology Tools/Courseware:
Computer, monitor, printer,
calculator.
Teacher Notes:
1. Each student may want
their own set of these cards so they can take them.
2. This game is great
for addition, subtraction, multiplication by making a set of four cards
numbered 1-12.
3. Have Acceptable Use
Policy Permission slips for student to use the Internet (WV
Policy 2460)
Procedures:
1. Put students in groups
of two. Pass the money cards which have been copied on card stock or construction
paper. Each group will need one
set of cards.
2. Cut out cards.
3. Explain how
to play "Money War."
a. Deal out all cards, keep face down in one pile.
b. Each person turns over their top card and figures out the value.
c. The person with the largest amount takes all the cards and places them
in a winning pile.
d. If two cards are turned over and they are worth the same amount you
now "Declare War."
Each person lays three cards face down and turns the fourth card face up
and figures out
the value. The highest value wins all the cards.
e. Continue until all cards have been turned over. The person with the
largest number of cards
in their winning pile becomes the winner and the game is over.
Modifications:
Be aware of the students
with IEP/504 plans that may require special instructions or they may need
a buddy.
Enrichment Activities:
Have students write the
value of the card they turn over in numeral form as well as word form.
