Learner Outcomes: The students will:

use prior knowledge to research the Food Guide Pyramid surf the web create a Food Guide Pyramid model for the classroom plan a Thanksgiving dinner menu
Duration of the Lesson: two 60 minute sessions
Materials:
· white cardboard
· markers
· grocery advertisement inserts for pictures of food,
magazines
· scissors
· glue
· rulers
Technology Tools/Courseware:
· Internet access and browser
Teacher Notes: Acceptable use policy must
be signed by all students and parents/guardians must be on file.
Procedures:
Day 1
Day 2· . Students will work in cooperative groups to research the Food GuidePyramid.
· The groups will give presentations to the class to share pyramid information.
· Students will predict the definitions of the terms: serving size
ounces
½ cup
¾ cup
· They will create a Food Guide Pyramid using pictures of food from their internet search, magazines and newspaper inserts. This will be used as a classroom model for further reference.
Modifications: Modify according to students' IEP's
Enrichment Activities: Students will keep a Health Diary of their meals for three days. They will evaluate whether or not their meals were balanced and explain why or why not. They will type and print this on Microsoft Word.
