Teacher Notes:
•
A Bio-Poem is a formula poem that can
be used across the curriculum. Any subject area could be adapted.
In Social Studies, the students could use an historical figure to create
a Bio-Poem. Science students could create a Bio-Poem based on a famous
scientist.
•
Teachers should schedule computer lab time for Day 2 of the lesson.
•
If the Internet is used, have secure signed Acceptable Use Policies.
Procedures:
Day 1
•
Following the reading of Holes by Louis
Sachar , the students should select one of the
characters to use for the development of the Bio-Poem.
•
Distribute copies of the Bio-Poem formula
.
•
Allow one class session for the students to develop the poem.
Day 2
•
In the computer lab, have the students type the Bio-Poem following the
formula.
•
Students could add appropriate graphics.
Modifications: Comply with any signed IEP’s
Enrichment:
The students could use the Bio-Poem formula
to
create a personal Bio-Poem. The
Bio-Poem could be used to analyze an historical figure, a famous scientist,
or an
author of choice.
Evaluation/Assessment:
Students will be graded on the completion of the poem as follows:
A All sections of Bio-Poem completed, proofread, graphics
appropriate
B All sections completed, proofread, not all graphics
apply to context
C Sections of poem missing, proofreading mistakes, not
all graphics apply
D Poem incomplete, editing mistakes, no graphics
F No work received
