Duration of Lesson: Two fifty minute sessions
Materials:
table to record data
three different size/shape jars or containers
dirt or sand (You can use water if you don’t want to mess with the dirt)

Procedures:
Session 1: “Scoop” one ladle of dirt (or water) in a container and measure to nearest millimeter. Record results on the table. Scoop another ladle and measure. Continue until the container is full. Repeat with all three containers.
Session 2: Using the table comparing scoops to millimeters, create a spreadsheet in Excel . Using the chart wizard, create a graph based on this information.
Modifications: Assistance will be provided based on individual needs. Additional time can be allotted to students needing it. Comply with IEP.
Enrichment: See if the students can "match" the graph to the container.
