daily temperature for
a Texas town located in the area where they estimated Camp Green Lake is
located.
The students will create a graph using Excel
that will compare the two towns
average daily temperatures.

Schedule computer lab time
Bookmark appropriate Internet sites. A list of sites is included in the

Resource section.
Procedures:
Day 1
Discuss with the students the area of the fictional Camp Green Lake.
Together brainstorm context clues from the story that would help locate
Camp
Green Lake.
Access the Internet to pinpoint an area in Texas that could be where the
Camp is located.
Use the following links Texas
Maps , Eco-Regions
of Texas
For example, the area around Pecos, Texas may fit the criteria.
After selecting a city, the students should go to The Weather Site.
Step 1 is to type in their hometown ZIP Codes. When this page is accessed,
scroll down to locate the Records and Averages Section. Here locate the
Averages Section and have the students record on the Average
Daily
Temperature Chart the Highs and Lows
for a five day period in mid-June.
Step 2 is to repeat the procedure this time locating the average daily
temperature for the Texas town the students selected. These temperatures
should be recorded on the Average Daily Temperature Chart.
Day 2
Students should have the Average Daily Temperature Chart completed for
this lesson in the computer lab.
Open a new Excel
spreadsheet.
Fill in the data. ( Excel Sample Worksheet
)
Select the data needed for the graph.
Click the Chart Wizard and follow the onscreen directions for the type
of
graph wanted and the titles to be used.
Completed graphs can be printed with the data displayed or as a separate
sheet.
Modifications: Comply with IEP guidelines.
Enrichment:
Students could research desert area environments such as, the
temperature changes in Arizona from the rim of the Grand Canyon
to the base.
Evaluation/Assessment: Students will be evaluated using a rubric.
