Quadrilaterals Lesson 3
Grade Levels: fourth and fifth grades

Learner Outcomes:
- Students will be able to identify quadrilaterals.
- Students will be able to distinguish the various
types of quadrilaterals.
- Students will be able to compare and contrast various
types of quadrilaterals.
- Students will be able to follow directions to construct
various quadrilaterals.
Duration of the lesson: three forty-five minute
class periods
Technology/ Tools/ Courseware: computer, Internet,
PowerPoint, Overhead projector
Teacher Notes:
Procedures:
- Introduce quadrilaterals with the PowerPoint presentation.
- Put various quadrilaterals on the overhead and
have the students identify them.
- Have the students fill in a quadrilateral chart with characteristics.
- Have the students compare
and contrast the various types of quadrilaterals.
- Have students work in pairs. One student gives
the characteristics of a quadrilateral and the other student draws it.
Have students switch roles. If time permits use one of the following
activities.
Modifications: Pair the students up for the activities.
Enrichment: Have students find the perimeter and
area of the quadrilaterals.
