Humpty Dumpty Sequencing  

Grade Level:  Kindergarten

Learner Outcomes:  The students will be able to:

Listen to the Nursery Rhyme "Humpty Dumpty"
Perform rhyme by acting out sequence of characters
Be able to recite rhyme

Duration of Lesson: four - 30 minutes sessions

Materials: 

Eggs-boiled and raw
Recipe for egg salad
Picture of Humpty Dumpty
Bread
"Blooming Mother Goose" - lesson plans and materials available from LinguiSystems
Mother Goose Nursery Rhyme Book 

Technology Tools/Courseware:

Video of "Humpty Dumpty"
Video Camera.
Television / VCR
Multimedia computer with internet access

Teacher Notes:

All students must have school, county, district and state Acceptable Use Policy signed before using the Internet.
Have alternate activity for any student not allowed to use the Internet.
Permission from parents for students picture to be used.
Act out Nursery Rhyme; use video camera to tape.
Students get in cooperative groups and make up their own nursery rhyme.
Students bring in boiled eggs and teacher a raw egg; discuss where they come from, size, shape, texture: use eggs for egg salad following sequence of recipe.
Students use internet to paint Humpty Dumpty.

SESSION 1

Procedures:

        1. Recite Nursery Rhyme, "Humpty Dumpty".
        2. Students will recite nursery rhyme using pictures to sequence rhyme.
        3. Act out nursery rhyme.
        4. Use video camera to take movie of children performing play.
        5. Show it to the class or to the whole school.

SESSION 2

Procedures:

        1. Discuss and review rhyme, ask questions about first, next, last.
        2. Students get in cooperative groups and make up their own nursery rhymes.
        3. Each group will recite their rhyme.

SESSION 3

Procedures:

        1. Students bring boiled eggs and teacher brings one raw egg.
        2. Discuss where they come from, size, shape, texture.
        3. Cut open boiled egg, discuss why it's called a boiled egg.
        4. Break a raw egg, compare differences and similarities between "boiled eggs" and "raw eggs"
        5. Use boiled eggs to make egg salad , following sequence of a recipe.
        6. Cooperatively the students make their sandwiches using first, next, and last.
        7. Watch Humpty Dumpty video.

SESSION 4

Procedure:

        1. Students use internet to paint Humpty Dumpty

Modifications:

All Modifications for each IEP and 504 document will be made.
Students will work in  cooperative groups.
Use visual aides for non-reader.
Must have access to internet.

Enrichment Activities:

Play rhyming game; say word, student repeats word that rhymes.
Give the students glue egg shells on Wall pattern used to demonstrate what happens when Humpty fell off the wall, choose one to two students were selected to try to put Humpty back together.  All Students discussed why it was difficult to do.

Evaluation/Assessment: Worksheet to access knowledge of sequence.
