Learner Outcomes:

  • The student will use various kid safe search engines to locate information on the Internet. (Yahooligans) 
  • The student will gain experience using the Internet while searching for the history of Island of St .Catalina. 
  • The student will use the writing process to write a report using Microsoft Word. (Word Tutorial) 
  • The student will write a report on the island of St. Catalina using Microsoft Word to improve on keyboarding skills.
  • The student will review the history of the island through the use of the Internet.
Duration of Lesson:   three-fifty minute class periods

Materials:

  • Paper
  • Pencil
  • computer lab
Technology Tools/Courseware:
  • Computer with Internet access
  • Microsoft Office 
  • Printer
  • Projection Device


Teacher Notes:

  • Students will need signed Internet permission forms.


Procedures: 

  Day 1
  • The teacher will have a class discussion on St. Catalina using the Internet and a projection device to introduce the island, its location and explain that they will be searching for information on the web.
Day 2
  • Instruct students to read information carefully before printing it, making sure it is relevant. Students will keep a log of their web sites.
Day 3

Material read aloud as per IEP

Enrichment Activities: 
Students could search for math activities , math activities using Island Map , research the island, or locate the island, and write a brief description of St. Catalina, and print it.

Evaluation/Assessment:
The teacher will evaluate the student's log of web sites.
The teacher will evaluate the student's report.
