Thanksgiving Unit

Lesson 2:  Pilgrims' Life

Grade Levels:  1-3

Duration of Lesson:  3 thirty-minute sessions

Materials:

Technology Tools/Courseware:  TV/VCR and internet accessible computer

Procedures:

  1. Watch the video "Dear America Journey  to the New World"  by Scholastic and discuss the life of the pilgrims in the New World
  2. Read Sara Morton's Day and Samuel Eaton's Day by Kate Waters aloud to the class.
  3. Have students draw an original picture illustrating the daily life of a pilgrim girl or boy.  Students can write a short paragraph telling about their picture.
  4. Make Indian corn napkin rings.

Modifications:  Students who have fine motor difficulties can work with a partner on the napkin ring art project.

Enrichment Activities:

Evaluation/Assessment:  Students will be able to depict the daily life of a pilgrim girl in individual illustrations.
