:  Thanksgiving Then

Subject:  Language Arts, Social Studies, Art and Music

Learner Outcomes:

Duration of Lesson:  4 sixty-minute sessions

Materials:

Technology Tools/Courseware:  Internet accessible computer

Teacher Notes:  Contact parents in advance to plan and organize the menu for the feast.

Procedures:

  1. Read The Pilgrims' First Thanksgiving by Ann McGovern aloud to the class.
  2. Prepare and play matching food game (cards one, two, and three) .
  3. Each child will make an "If I Were at the First Thanksgiving" booklet.
  4. Have a tasting party which includes all the foods from the matching game.

Modifications:  Students who have difficulty matching the food cards may use few cards to play the game.

Evaluation/Assessment:
Assess information presented in students' oral presentations and the completion of the K-W-L charts and on the boat writing activity.
