Learner Outcomes:

• Students will collect data for their presentation.
• Students will work as a team to make a presentation to the class.
• Students will present individually to the faculty and parents.
• Students will be able to make a PowerPoint presentation using data they have collected.
• Students will incorporate correct grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and graphical representations for an oral multimedia presentation using PowerPoint.
• Students will use a word processor to increase their editing and formatting techniques.

3- 50 minute class periods

Materials:

Student work from previous lessons.

Technology Tools/Courseware:

1. Computer access
2. Word processor, such as Microsoft Word
3. Multimedia presentation software, such as PowerPoint
4. Projector, scan converter, and/or television

Students should have worked on previous lessons.  Teacher should divide students into groups of no more than 3.  Teacher should carefully assign students into groups with the knowledge of those who are more computer literate assigned with those who are more creative, artistic.  When assigning students to the computers, be sure to allow them to sit next to one another for discussion and collaboration of ideas.

Procedures:

• Students are divided into groups of three.
• In their groups, each student must pick one of their original 5 tessellations to be used in their presentation.
• Each student must use the tessellation that they designed in their presentation.
• Each group presentation must have a minimum of 15 slides.
• The teacher can use one of three strategies:
• 1) Each team is to present an overview of what they have learned throughout the project
• 2) Each team does only one of the 4 lessons, which would be put together as the whole class project
• 3) A combination of the first two, where some groups are doing each lesson and some are doing the overview.
• The teacher must decide if his/her class needs the structure of the #2 above or can work independently, using their own ideas.
• Each multimedia presentation must be accompanied by an oral presentation.
• Each person in the group must be part of both the oral and multimedia presentation.
• Each group must present a question and answer segment at the end of their presentation.

Students who are less verbal should be encouraged to present for some part of the presentation.
 

Enrichment Activities:

The presentations can be displayed to the faculty and community during a parent night and/or for the Local School Improvement Council.

Evaluation/Assessment:

Students will receive credit for their part in the presentation.
