Lesson 3:  Dictionary skills

Grade Level:  Sixth grade

Subjects:  Science, Media & Math

Learner Outcomes:

Duration of Lesson:  Two 45 minute sessions

Materials:  Pencil, notebook, paper, dictionary

Technology Tools/Courseware:  Computers, Encarta, Power Point

Procedures:

  1. Each of you may choose a partner to work with on the computer.
  2. Copy the vocabulary words from Power Point presentation into your notebook.
  3. Define 1/2 of your vocabulary list using the computer dictionary.
  4. Define 1/2 of your vocabulary list using a dictionary.
  5. Alphabetize your list.
  6. Turn in your definitions.
  7. Turn in your alphabetized list on another sheet of paper.
Modifications:  Students identified needing modifications will use modified vocabulary list.

Evaluation/Assessment: Quiz on vocabulary words.  Notebooks will be checked.
