DESCRIPTION: This unit is designed to enable students to learn
about healthy eating habits, use of food labels, resource management, and
the writing process while incorporating technology in the study of nutritional
health.
LEARNER OUTCOMES:
Students shall be able to:
- identify food groups and explain why they are important
- distinguish between fruit, vegetable, meat, dairy, fats, and
grains.
- demonstrate a willingness to present relevant ideas in discussions
- use technology to write a process paragraph
- explain what a balanced diet is and why it is important
- create a food pyramid
- locate states on a map
- identify food products from each state
- identify the regions of the United States
- recognize the steps that food products follow from the farm
to the table
- use Internet skills to complete educational activities pertaining
to the unit lessons
- determine the number of grams of sugar in various food products.
- construct a bar graph comparing the grams of sugar in various products.
- determine which snack foods contain the most grams of sugar.
- Determine which snack is the best for a snack food.
