Learner Outcomes: Students will realize a relationship between a healthy heart and longevity.  They will  also discover that altering health related factors, including weight, diet, and substance abuse, will significantly increase or decrease their projected longevity. 
Duration of Lesson: One class period (45 minutes). 
Materials: Procedure, Data and Question Sheet--one per student

Courseware:
Computer with Internet access.
Teacher Notes: Secure computer laboratory access. 
Make sure that all students have signed county/school Acceptable Use Policy.  Provide one copy of the Procedure, Data and Question Sheet per student.  An Answer Key for this sheet is also provided for the teacher.
Procedures: Students will access a web site to play a Longevity Game by entering data for a fictional teenager using the data provided on the Procedure, Data and Question Sheet.   Students will then alter health data and find the resulting changes in longevity.  Finally, students will calculate their personal predicted longevity and suggest possible changes for increasing their own life span potential.
Modifications: All IEP modifications should be followed. 
Enrichment Activities: Students may repeat the Longevity Game by providing data for family members and friends. Students may find additional healthy heart information from the American Heart Association.

Assessment: 
The Procedure, Data and Question Sheet asks questions that may be used for evaluation purposes.  This sheet may be checked using the Answer Key.
