guidelines for Healthy Americans.

research the daily
fat, sugar, sodium consumption.

evaluate a fast food menu from
the web site list to determine how healthy fast food is.

learn about the nutritional value of their favorite fast food meal.
5.
improve their food choices when eating at a fast food establishment to incorporate
more healthy
foods into their diets.
Duration of Lesson: Two 45 minute classes
Materials: handout (seven dietary guidelines), web sites on fast foods, worksheet (Fast Food Findings), computer, pencil
Technology Tools/Courseware: Computer, internet
Teacher Notes:
1. Have students study or review the
seven dietary guidelines national
guidelines for healthy Americans to learn
what the requirements are for healthy Americans.
2. Students will review daily allowances
for sugar, sodium, fat . daily
requirements
3. Students will go to one of the
web sites listed on web sites on fast foods from the web site list .
4. Once on the web site of their
choice, students will select enough foods to create a meal. Once the
meal has been decided upon, student will use worksheet Fast Food Findings to record the information
needed to evaluate meal.
5. After the top half of the worksheet
is completed, student will determine if menu needs to be revised to become
more healthy. If requirements are not met, a revision must be done.
Student will go back to web site and choose other foods to satisfy daily requirements.
Modifications: Follow IEPS for students will special needs. Other students may serve as peer tutors on this assignment.
Enrichment:
Evaluation will consist of the completed
Fast Food Finding worksheet that will
show students revision for a healthy meal.
Have Students complete the worksheet
Fast Food Evaluation.
Use the student checklist to allocate points for student grade.
