Titanic - Facts and Figures
Grade Level: 6, 7
Learner Outcomes:  Students will search the Internet to discover some facts and figures about the Titanic.  They will compare the cost of building the Titanic in 1912 with what it would cost today.  They will also compare the costs of a ticket on the Titanic with what it would cost today.  Students will use the information found concerning the lifeboats aboard the Titanic to create a chart showing how many passengers were saved and how many could have been saved.
Duration of Lesson: 3- 4, forty-five minute class periods
Technology Tools: Calculators, Computers with Internet Access
Procedures: Students will answer the following questions by searching the Internet and then complete the chart - 'Titanic Lifeboats' -question number seven on the Facts and Figures questionnaire.
Enrichment: Students could play the "Titanic" board game.  The teacher could expand this lesson plan by teaching mean, median, mode and range using the data from the 'Titanic Lifeboats' chart. (IGOs 6.25, 6.54, 7.32 and 7.51 )
Modifications: Teachers should be aware of special IEP needs of any student.
Evaluation/Assessment: Students' participation in class discussions following Internet search could be one form of assessment.  Also, students' chart will be evaluated on accuracy and completeness.
