Teacher Notes: 
Make sure the practice writing samples are current and highly interesting to students.
Students should only use direct quotations when necessary.  Only 10% to 20 % of their
    final paper should be quoted material.

Procedures:
1. Teacher explains PLAGIARISM  and how to avoid it by practicing two of three ways to compile
    sound notes.
2. Teacher explains how to paraphrase, summarize, and use direct quotation.  The teacher provides
    writing samples of high interest to students.  Have them practice paraphrasing and summarizing
    the samples.
3. Students work in small groups and compare and contrast their paraphrases and summaries making
    sure that there is no plagiarism.
4. Teacher instructs students to use their numbered working bibliography and their printed and
    photocopied materials to start making note cards.  Students will write a paraphrase, a direct
    quotation, or a summary (one to a note card), and put the corresponding number from the
    working bibliography at the top, and the page number, if applicable at the bottom.  Students
    will also put a key word or phase at the top of each note card for organizational purposes.
