Learner Outcomes:  At the conclusion of this lesson, the student will be able to:

1.  Graphically organize pre and post World War II Europe independently.

2.  Compare and Contrast Allied Powers and Axis Powers.

3.  Formulate a cross-cultural relevance of choosing sides in war.

Duration of Lesson:  1, 90 minute class period.
Materials:
1.  Paper
2.  Pen/Pencil
3.  Colored Pencils or Markers
4.  Photocopier Machine
5. Crisis in Europe Handout
6. The Ultimate Sacrifice Handout
7. Five Paragraph Narrative Rubric
8. KWL Chart for D-Day


Technology Tools:

1.  Internet Access

2.  Microsoft Excel Software

3.  Printer

Teacher Notes:
1.  Acceptable Use Policy on File

2.  Secure Computer Laboratory Access

Procedures:
1.  Introduce the Lesson.

2.  Distribute Printed Copies of Crisis in Europe Handout and  KWL Chart for D-Day.

3.  Give students oral instruction on completion of handout.

4.  Distribute Printed Copies of The Ultimate Sacrifice Handout.

5.  Students will then be given class time to research statistics and complete both assignments.

6.  Collect all completed materials.

Modifications:
         1.  A Touch Screen for Physically Impaired Students.
         2.  Additional time to complete the assignment will be permitted for Mentally


              Impaired Students.

         3.  Screen Magnifiers for Visually Impaired Students.

         4.  Increase Font Size and Format in Bold Lettering on all handouts for the Visually
              Impaired.

         5.  Use Blue Paper to decrease glare for Visually Impaired.

      6.  Consult Special Education Staff and review IEP and 504 Plans with that person.

Enrichment Activities:

       1.  Complete a Bar Chart, Pie Chart, or Line Graph using Microsoft Excel
             Software depicting both Allied and Axis powers.

Evaluation/Assessment:

         1.  Grade received on completed, printed copy of  on-line map quiz found on The Ultimate Sacrifice Handout.

         2.  Grade received on graphic presentation on Crisis in Europe Handout.

         3.  Grade received on 5-paragraph narrative on D-Day Invasion. (Rubric)
