Lesson 5

Title: Wildcats Go to Washington

Grades: 6, 7, and 8

Subjects: Social Studies, Language Arts

Learner Outcomes: 1) To be able to follow
                                       itinerary
                                  2) To use a video and
                                      digital camera
                                  3) To be a good note
                                       taker and collect pamphlets

Time Frame: Five full days of trip

Materials: Emergency forms, first aid kit, batteries, blank tapes, contract for activities
admission tickets, extra copies of itinerary for students, daily report forms

Technology: Video cameras, digital cameras,

Teacher Notes: The reservations are confirmed, funds raised and all that is left is the
actual trip. Yet, there are still loose ends to double check, see about the following

Emergency forms for each student
First aid kit--should have a nurse as one of the chaperones
Video camera, extra batteries, tapes
Digital camera and batteries
Contracts for activities
Activity tickets
Extra copies of itinerary for students
Daily reports for students

Note: The student daily report is a form to be completed each day and turned in at room check each evening.

To carry out the itinerary
Students need to be reminded to use the digital camera to record items of interest for their contribution to the group PowerPoint presentation. Students are responsible for the site or activity they reported on in class lesson 'You Be the Tour Guide'
Students should also collect pamphlets and take notes while at their site
May also assign one student to collect pamphlets for addition to the classroom DC trip file box
May choose one student per day to record the trip with video camera. Camera person should take care to record all major events/sites and fairly film everyone (not just friends)

Modifications: Extra chaperones are provided as dictated by the needs of special needs students
