Learner Outcomes: The student will research, analyze and evaluate the influences of historical, cultural, and biographical factors in shaping styles and voice of literary works
Duration of Lesson: One fifty minute session for note taking and a Power Point presentation
Materials: Pen, pencil, paper for note taking
Technology Tools/Courseware: Computer, Power Point software, and data projector
Teacher Notes: Teacher presents the information through the Power Point presentation, BioScreen: F Scott Fitzgerald, and discusses necessary points as needed
Procedures: Before starting the novel The Great Gatsby present the information about the author F Scott Fitzgerald to the students. To do this, use the Power Point presentation about Fitzgerald. Allow enough time for the students to write the information down on their paper. Discuss each item allowing the students to see, hear, and write the information for more reinforcement of the facts.
Modifications: See Individual Education Plans for any modifications that may be necessary for individual students. For sight impaired students the text of the presentation may be read aloud. For hearing impaired students the text of the presentation may be written out for them
Enrichment Activities: A & E Channel has a video Biography: F Scott Fitzgerald. This video may be used to reinforce the biographical information on the author of The Great Gatsby
Evaluation/Assessment: Within the unit plan for The Great Gatsby, there will be a quiz on relevant biographical information.
