Weather Poems

Clouds

White sheep, white sheep,
On a blue hill,
When the wind stops
You all stand still.
When the wind blows
You walk away slow.
White sheep, white sheep,
Where do you go?
                          Christina G. Rossetti

Rain

Summer rain
is soft and cool,
so I go barefoot
in a pool.
But winter rain
is cold, and pours,
so I must watch it
from indoors.
             Myra Cohn Livingstone

Rain Song

Spring rain is pink rain,
For petals sweet and fair,
Summer rain is rainbow rain,
With colours everywhere.
The rain of fall is brown rain,
With leaves that whirl and blow,
And winter rain is white rain,
But we call it snow.

Weather Together

There are holes in the clouds
where the sun peeks through,
Patches of sky,
scraps of blue,
It's raining rain
and bits of ice
bounce down like
tiny grains of rice.
This weather together
changes by the minute
And I can hardly wait
to walk out in it!
            Lillian M. Fisher

Weather

Whether the weather be fine,
Or whether the weather be not,
Whether the weather be cold,
Or whether the weather be hot,
We'll weather the weather
Whatever the weather
Whether we like it or not.

Lacy Snowflakes
(Tune: London Bridge is Falling Down)

Lacy snowflakes falling down,
Falling down, falling down,
Lacy snowflakes falling down,
Tickly, tingly, snowflakes.

Clouds

Floating pictures in the sky.
Upon a cloud I'd like to fly.
And see the world from way up high.
Come and ride a cloud with me.

Rain, Rain
(Tune: Row, Row, Row Your Boat)

Rain, rain falling down
Landing all around.
What a lovely sound you make
Splashing on the ground.

What's the Weather?
(Tune: Clementine)

What's the weather?
What's the weather?
What's the weather like today?
Tell us (child's name),
What's the weather?
What's the weather like today?
Is it sunny? (hold arms above head in a circle)
Is it cloudy? ( cover eyes with the hands)
Is it rainy out today? (flutter fingers downward)
Is it snowy? (wrap arms around body and shiver)
Is it windy? ("blow children over" with a swoop of arm)
What's the weather like today?

Snow

Snow blows
In bunches.
Snow sparkles
And crunches.
Snow is clean & cold.
Snow is crisp, and yet
when it warms a little,
Snow is wet.
Any winter day, I know,
Is pleasanter when there is snow.

Rain on the Window

WATCH!
one drop
starts
slowly
down---
then with a rush
joins a second,
pick up a third!
Now the three-drop
races to the
bottom
PLOP!

Snowflakes

If snowflakes fell like snowflakes, gleaming yellow & so bright,
we could build a snowman, he could have a sunball fight,
we could watch the snowflakes drifting in the sky.
We could go sleighing in the middle of July
through sundrifts & sunbanks,
we could ride a sunmobile,
and we could touch sunflakes-
I wonder how they'd feel.

Water Cycle
( Tune: "It's Raining, It's Pouring)

It's raining, it's pouring,
The oceans are snoring
Water from the falling rain
While thunderclouds are roaring.

The rain now is stopping,
The rain's no longer dropping.
Sun comes out and soaks up the water
Like a mop that's mopping.

The water's still there now,
But hidden in the air now.
In the cloud it makes a home
Until there's rain to share now.

It's raining, it's pouring...

Thunder and Lightning
(Tune: Pop Goes the Weasel)

When a storm begins in the clouds,
It sometimes may look frightening.
You see a quick electrical spark--
Flash! goes the lightning!

Long and thin and streaky and fast,
Its glow is oh so brightening.
Watch for the electric spark--
Flash! goes the lightning!

When a storm begins in the clouds,
It truly is a wonder.
You hear a rumble loud in the sky--
Clap! goes the thunder!

Lightning bolts are heating the air,
Over clouds and under.
When the air expands enough--
Clap! goes the thunder!

Snow

Tiny ice crystals
In freezing weather,
tiny ice crystals
Sticking together.
What do they make?
A single snow flake!

Ice
(Tune: "Three Blind Mice")

We find ice, we find ice,
Where it is cold, where it is cold.
When the temperature drops to  32 degrees,
That's when water starts to freeze,
And frozen water guarantees
That we find ice!

We find ice, we find ice,
Inside the fridge, inside the fridge.
Ice is there, but did you know
That frost and sleet and hail and snow
Are also forms of ice, it's so!
Oh, we find ice!

Wind

Whoosh! Whoosh!
Whoosh!
Feel the wind push!
Blow! Blow! Blow!
Where'd my hat go?

Cloud

What is fluffy?
What is white?
What can you see
When the skies are bright?
What can float?
What brings rain?
What may be higher
Than a bird or plane?
Say it loud:
Cloud!

Weather Ways

Whatever the weather
we have it each day.
It's hot,
or it's cold,
or it's sunny,
or gray.
It's blowy,
or snowy,
or rainy,
or clear.
There's SOME kind of weather
each day of the year.

Rain Sizes

Rain comes in various sizes
Some rain is as small as a mist
It tickles your face with surprises
And tingles as if you'd been kissed.

Some rain is the size of a sprinkle
And doesn't put out all the sun
You can see the drops sparkle and twinkle
And a rainbow comes out when it's done.

Some rain is as big as a nickel
And comes with a crash and a hiss
It comes down too heavy to tickle
It's more like a splash than a kiss.

When it rains the right size and you're wrapped in
Your rain clothes, it's fun out of doors
But run home before you get trapped in
The big rain that rattles and roars.
                                John Ciardi

When It Rains, It Rains

When it snows, it snows
When it fogs, it fogs
When it blows, it blows
When it's hot, it's hot
When it's cold, it's cold
When you're young, you're young
When you're old, you're old
When I'm happy, I'm happy
When I'm sad, I'm sad
When I'm good, I'm good
But when I'm bad...
I'm perfectly horri-...
ble.

Weather is Full of the Nicest Sounds

Weather is full of the nicest sounds:
it sings
and rumbles
and pings
and pounds
and hums
and tinkles
and strums
and twangs
and whishes
and sprinkles
and splishes
and bangs
and mumbles
and grumbles
and rumbles
and flashes and CRASHES
I wonder
if thunder
frightens
a bee,
a mouse, in her house,
a bird in a tree,
a bear
or a hare
or a fish in the sea?
Not ME!

Snow

We'll play in the snow
And stray in the snow
And stay in the snow
In a snow-white park
We'll clean in the snow
And frown in the snow
Fall down in the snow
Till it's after dark
We'll cook crow pies
In a big, snow pan
We'll make snow eyes
In a round snowman
We'll sing snow songs
And chant snow chants
And roll in the snow
In our fat snow pants
And when it's time to go home to eat
We'll have snow toes
On our frosted feet.
                    Karla Kushkin

Rain Rain

Rain rain
falls on the street,
mud in puddles
cleaning my feet.
Thunder thunder
rumble and roar,
close the windows
and lock the door.
Clouds clouds
black and gray,
heavy with water
to drop all day.
Sun sun
is breaking through,
clouds are moving,
the rain stops too.
Rainbow rainbow
across the sky,
see through colours
to tickle my eyes.
               James Horner

Raindrops

Raindrops are such funny things.
They haven't feet or haven't wings.
Yet they sail through the air
With the greatest of ease,
And dance on the street
Wherever they please.

Little Raindrops

This is the sun, high in the sky.
A dark cloud suddenly comes sailing by.
These are the raindrops,
Pitter, pattering down.
Watering the flower seeds
That grow under the ground.

Clouds are Floating
(Tune: Frere Jacques)

Clouds are floating, clouds are floating,
Up so high, up so high,
Floating up above us, floating above us,
In the sky, in the sky.

Thunder
(Tune: Frere Jacques)

I hear thunder, I hear thunder,
Hark, don't you? Hark, don't you?
Pitter patter raindrops, pitter patter raindrops,
I'm wet through.
So are you.

Rain

Rain on the rooftops,
Rain on the trees.
Rain on the green grass,
But not on me!

Rain

When the sky gets dark and cloudy
And the rain comes falling down,
I'm glad I'm in and looking out;
It is no time to frown.
I know the flowers are happy
To get a drink at last;
The air if filled with freshness
Each time the rain has passed.

Clouds

Floating pictures in the sky.
Upon a cloud I'd like to fly.
And see the world from way up high.
Come and ride a cloud with me.
