Unit Abstract:

Personal health and well being can be directly connected to the community in which you live. However, it is an unfortunate fact that many rural communities lack the ability to provide community or public facilities and or activities to promote physical well being.

This unit is composed of an ongoing series of lessons that suggests teacher discretion. An approximated time would be nine 90 minute class periods, encompassing the subject areas listed above, with the community project being formulated during out of class time with an open ended time frame.

Life Long Fitness Report Outline

 Rationale:

The purpose of this project is for students to understand the importance of personal wellness. Personal wellness includes knowledge of proper nutrition, understanding that correct exercise is an important part of our daily lives and that mental wellness is just as important as physical. Students will spend time in and out of the classroom setting engaged in discussions with experts, conducting research and writing a report based on findings. (Please note that this is a draft copy of teacher ideas and will be edited to reflect student input and then given to students as the required format.)

 The final product will be a three (3) to five (5) page paper that follows this outline:
