Title: Session Four-Drafting the Life Long Fitness Report and Fitness Brochure

Day One

Day Two Duration of Lesson:2 - 90 minute sessions

To provide ample time for students to gather and collect information, this session should begin approximately one week after completion of Session Three.

Materials:Day One: Note Cards, Paper, Pen or Pencil Paper

Day Two: Pen or Pencil, Markers, Crayons and Sample Brochures

Technology Tools/Courseware:This lesson is a prerequisite for Lesson 7 where computers and various software programs will be used to create the final draft of the Fitness Brochure started in this lesson.

Teacher Notes:

Day One

This lesson allows two days for drafting of Life Long Fitness reports and Fitness Brochures. Students will decide the order of task completion. The teacher will circulate the room offering assistance as needed. Students will be encouraged to visit other groups to gather ideas and offer input.

This is a working day for students, so they can begin their writing. However, students and teacher will review and discuss the Language Handbook section of the McDougal Littel Literature and Language text or the handbook of the teacher’s choice. Rough drafts will be due one week from the day that writing begins.

Day Two

This is a working day for students, so they can begin work on Fitness Brochures. Students will be divided into like groups according to their physical activity. They will then begin to draft a brochure that describes their activity, the benefits and the locations in our area where citizens can become Hooked on Health [and] Get A C T I V E.

Procedures:

Day One

15- 20 minutes to review the guidelines for the writing assignment and the writing process. Students will use the remaining time to begin rough drafts. The teacher will circulate the room to give assistance as needed.

Day Two

15- 20 minutes

Discuss the components necessary for a good brochure. Students have discretion as to the creativity of their brochures; however, each must incorporate the theme, "Hooked on Health Get A C T I V E". Look at sample brochures to discuss the qualities. Students will use the remaining time to work on drafting brochures; the teacher will circulate the room. Students will be encouraged to visit other groups to offer input and gain ideas. Brochures will be created in session seven in computer skills class.
