SURVIVING IN WINDOWS 98

Lesson 2 - Windows of Opportunity

Learner Outcomes:

The students will learn how to move and size windows.
The students will learn how to minimize, maximize, restore, and close windows.
The students will learn how to "tile" windows horizontally and vertically.

Duration of Lesson: One 50-Minute Class Period

Materials:

"Manipulating Windows Checklist"
Pen or pencil

Technology Tools/Courseware:

Computer with Windows 98 operating system and Internet access
Netscape Communicator

Teacher Notes:

Students must have a signed Technology Acceptable Use form on file.

Procedures:

1.)    Have students start their computers and double-click on the Netscape Communicator icon to access
        the Internet.
2.)    Tell students to type the URL for The Solution Site (http://www.thesolutionsite.com) in the "Location"
        box and press ENTER. Then locate the unit Surviving in Windows 98 and find "Lesson 2 - Windows
        of Opportunity."    Then follow the instructions for that lesson.
3.)    Pass out the "Manipulating Windows Checklist" and tell students to check off each task as they
        feel they have mastered it during the completion of the lesson. Students should then submit the
        completed checklist to their instructor.

Modifications:

Student IEPs will determine lesson modifications.
Advanced students may be asked to help students who are having difficulties.

Enrichment Activities:

Students will look up the site "www.geekgirls.com/mainmenu.htm" and write a 100-word summary on the site.

Evaluation/Assessment:

Successful completion of the lesson activities.
Successful completion of Manipulating Windows Checklist.
