Lesson 3 - The Important Stuff

Learner Outcomes:

Students will learn to start programs from the desktop.
Students will learn to create a text document from the desktop.
Students will learn to create a folder for storing documents.
Students will learn to move documents and folders into a separate folder.
Students will learn to rename documents and folders.

Duration of Lesson: One 50-Minute Class Period

Materials:

Lesson 3 Checklist

Technology Tools/Courseware:

Computer with Windows 98 operating system and Internet access
Netscape Communicator

Teacher Notes:

Students must have a signed Technology Acceptable Use form on file.

Procedures:

1.)    Have students turn on their computers and monitors so that the desktop appears.
2.)    Have students access the Internet, type in the URL for The Solution Site (http://www.thesolutionsite.com),
        and then press ENTER. Find the unit on Surviving in Windows 98 and go to "Lesson 3 - The Important Stuff."
3.)    Have the students size their Netscape window so that it only takes the right half of the desktop space.
        This will allow the other half of the desktop space to be utilized for practice activities.
4.)    Students should now go through the activities in Lesson 3. As they complete the lesson, the practice
        exercises can be done in the open desktop space.

Modifications:

Student IEPs will determine lesson modifications.
Advanced students will help students who are experiencing difficulties.

Evaluation/Assessment:

Successful completion of the lesson activities.
