lab for 2 days with Internet access.

Before entering Internet
sites, the teacher may want to review with students methods of skimming/scanning
articles for pertinent information.
PROCEDURES:
Assignment #1:
-
Students will use Internet
sources and encyclopedia on CD Rom and in book form to write a two-page
report on the Hellenistic Age of Greco-Roman history. The teacher
will provide students with a guideline for students
to follow in their research and list possible web sites, but the students
will also be encouraged to use search engines to locate their own Internet
sites. The student must list a minimum of 3 sources and should strive
for mechanical and grammatical accuracy in their report. Students
may choose to word process the report upon completion, editing, and revision
of their rough draft.

Assignment #2:

Students will create a
world timeline showing the major events and most notable people all over
the world during the Hellenistic Age (about 300 B.C.-30 B.C.), using Internet
sources called ancient
cultural timeline and world
timeline. Students have the option of using a computer paint
program such as PC Paint or MS Paint to create their timeline.
MODIFICATIONS:

Depending upon the students'
abilities/IEP's, the teacher may list more specific questions to be answered
in the report on the Hellenistic Age and may list specific events and people
to be listed on the timeline.

REPORT ON HELLENISTIC AGE
1. Explain the origin of the name "Hellenistic."
2. Be sure to include both political
history and cultural developments.
3. Mention events and developments
in both Greece and Rome.
4. Include in your report the names
and accomplishments of people such as Alexander the Great and his successors,
Philip V, Antiochus III, Archimedes, Aristarchus, Eratosthenes, Euclid,
Ptolemy I.
5. Mention such philosophies as Stoicism
and Epicureanism.
6. Talk about the Macedonian dynasties,
the struggle over Palestine and Phoenicia, the Roman conquest of Macedonia
and Greece, and the spread of Greek culture.
7. Conclude your report by discussing
how you think the Hellenistic Age may have influenced the development of
Western civilization.
