Title: Where Are You Going?

Children will type a sentence about a
family activity and draw a picture to go with it.

a graph.
Duration of Lesson: Three days, approximately
45 minutes each day
Materials:
- We're
Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen
- Sentence strips with positional words
printed on them
- Manipulative bears
- Pictures of families doing things together
- Computers
- Paper , pencil ,and crayons
- Graph
Technology Tools/Courseware:
- Word 2000
- Bailey's Book House (if available)

Procedures:
Day
1:
- Teacher will read We're
Going on a Bear Hunt.
- Discussion will follow on how the family
got to the bear cave.
- Teacher will show sentence strips with
positional words printed on them: over, under, around, on, etc...
- Children will demonstrate to the
teacher their understanding of the positional words with a set of manipulative
bears:
1. Put the red bear on your table.
2. Put the blue bear under your
chair.
3. Line your bears up in a row on your desk
and put the green bear between the red bear and the blue bear.
4. Put the yellow bear over your head.
- Children will click on the icon Bailey's
Book House on the computer. They will click on the clown and follow his
directions to complete the positional word activity.
Day 2:
- Teacher will read We're
Going on a Bear Hunt.
- The class will discuss the activity of
the family in the story.
- Each child will share an activity that
their family enjoys doing together.
- At computer time, each student will type
a sentence about a favorite family activity. The student will print their
sentence and draw a picture to go with it.
Day 3:
- Teacher will read We're
Going on a Bear Hunt.
- The teacher will have a graph prepared
on the board of the different avenues the family went through to reach the
bear cave.

- The children will draw a map showing the
way to the cave.
Modifications: The classroom aide may
guide any student who needs any extra help during the lesson.
Enrichment Activities:
- Students will interview their parents
or look through a family album and find out what a favorite family activity
was when their parents were children. The student will write a sentence and
draw a picture to go with the sentence.
- Students will interview the grandparents
or look through a family album and find out what a favorite family activity
was when their grandparents were children. The student will write a sentence
and draw a picture to go the sentence.
- Students will compare family activities
of two or three generations and discuss which generation would they
like to be a participant.

Evaluation/Assessment:
- Students will have an understanding of
the meanings of positional words: on, over, under, between, through,
etc....
- Students will be able to interpret
findings from a graph.
- Students will be able to type a sentence
at the computer workstation and print the sentence with assistance.
