TITLE:  History of Chemistry; The Alchemists


 











Grade Levels:                10, 11, 12

Subjects:                      Coordinated Science, Chemistry, English, and History

Learner Outcomes:

Duration of Lesson:     Two 90 minute class periods plus one week outside of class
                                    for research and writing assignment.

Materials:

Technology:    Computers with internet access.

Teacher Notes:

Procedures:
                  Expose students to common laboratory apparatus. Students will      then compare this apparatus to that used by the Alchemists.  Students will also complete a short research paper on an important contributor from the Renaissance era to the development of modern Chemistry.

Modifications:    None.

Enrichment Activities:
                              The research assignment should be tailored to the abilities of the particular class.  The depth of the assignment can be adjusted to meet specific goals of the instructor.

Evaluation/Assessment:  Worksheets should be collected and graded.  Also,
                                    grades should be assessed to the written assignments.
