Day 2 Learner Outcomes:
1. Identify number of
permanent teeth and review primary teeth.
2. Identify parts of a tooth.
3. Recognize specific vocabulary
pertaining to the parts of the tooth.
Duration: 30 minutes
Materials: index cards for word wall, computer with Power Point and internet access, tooth model, post-it notes, projector device, overhead projector, markers, drawing paper
Technology: computer with Power Point presentation
Teacher Notes: Signed AUP Acceptable Use
Policy
Have a tooth model and drawing paper ready.
Review Power Point presentation.
Teacher will have KWL chart drawn on a transparency and ready
for the overhead.
Procedures:
1. Complete and discuss
the K & W of a KWL chart.
2. Play Power
Point Presentation which will review the number of primary teeth, introduce
the number of permanent teeth, display the parts of the tooth.
3. A model
of a person's tooth will be used to show the parts of the tooth.
(gum, crown, pulp, dentin, root, enamel, jawbone)
4. Make a word wall of vocabulary
words used in naming the parts of a tooth.
5. Use a poster of the tooth
and post-it notes with the vocabulary words on them. Have children
take turns labeling the tooth correctly.
6. Complete and discuss the
L of the KWL chart.
7. Give a piece of drawing paper
to the students, and let the children use the word bank to draw and label
a tooth independently.
Modifications: Pair students to accommodate
different needs.
Follow special needs procedures.
Enrichment: Complete a word search .
Evaluation: Complete a rubric for each child.
